Here are some more food idioms that tie in rather nicely with our food themed trial lessons!

in a pickle: in a mess; in trouble
漬け物の中で：困って、苦境に陥って
couch potato: A person who spends little or no time exercising and a great deal of time watching television
長椅子のジャガイモ：わずかしか、あるいはまったく運動をせず、かなりの時間テレビを観て過ごす人のこと
food for thought : Something that warrants serious consideration.
心の糧：真剣に考えさせられずにはいられないもの
sell like hot cakes : to be sold very quickly in large quantities
ホットケーキのように売れる：非常に短い時間で大量に売れること
bread and butter : A person’s livelihood or main source of income, typically as earned by routine work
パンとバター：生計、主要な収入源(単調な仕事で得られる収入についていうことが多い)
My brother works hard during the week but at the weekends he spends most of his time lying on the sofa watching TV. He can be a real couch potato.
