心・心臓に関する慣用句
My daughter is 4 years old and only recently discovered that there is a thing called heart beating in her chest. She asked me why there is such a thing in our body and the only answer I could come up with was for her to think of it as a battery that is important for us to continue living. Come to think of it one of my students is a cardiologist and I will ask her next time I meet her.
4歳になる娘が、自分の胸の中で脈打っている、心臓というものがあることを発見したのは、つい最近のことです。どうして体の中にこんなものがあるの？、と聞かれたとき、私が思いつけた答えはせいぜい、「私達が生き続けるために大事な電池のようなものだ、と考えてもらおう」というものでした。考えてみれば、生徒さんの中には心臓専門のお医者さんがいらっしゃるので、次に会う時に聞いてみようと思います。
In any case for today I have prepared some idioms with the word “heart”. Please learn them by heart!

lose heart: to stop believing that you can succeed
He was almost about to lose heart when he received the most wonderful news.
心を失う：上手くいくと信じるのを止める
一番素晴らしい知らせを受けた時、彼は危うく心が折れるところだった。
young at heart: thinking and behaving as if you are younger than you really are
Grandma may be nearing 100 but she has always remained young at heart.
心は若い：実際より自分は若いと思って振る舞うこと
ばあちゃんは100歳になろうとしているんだけど、いつもはつらつとしたままなのよ。
change of heart: If you have a change of heart, you change your opinion or the way you feel about something.
He was about to start studying Business English but he had a sudden change of heart.
心の変化：「心の変化」あるというのは、意見や感じ方を変えるということです。
彼はビジネス英語の勉強を始めようとしたが、急に気が変わった。
by heart : learned in such a way that you can repeat it from memory:
He can still recite some of the English poems I learnt in Elementary school by heart.
心臓で：何も見ないで繰り返し言えるように、習得している
彼は、私が小学校で習った英語の詩のいくつかを、今でも暗唱できる。
