How to study -Spelling rules
Hi there everyone, in one of my former blogs I wrote about how learning English spelling phonetically can be very useful, but of course English can be a bit strange sometimes, especially when it comes to spelling so I will introduce a few spelling rules to help you with your reading/ writing over the next few months.
This is the one we all learn in primary school.
i before e except after c.
As a general rule, i always goes before e in any word containing the two letters. For example…
believe, friend, die, pierce
The rule doesn’t always stand though, for instance when the sound of the e is an “a” or an “i”sound like ..
weigh, neighbourhood, sleigh, height,
deceive, perceive, receipt,
You will also find exceptions in things like
science, proficient, sufficient
but as a general rule for spelling it is a pretty safe bet that i comes before e except after c.

これは小学校で習うもののひとつです。
cの後を除いては、iはeの前に来ます。
一般的なルールでは、2文字を含む単語はiはいつもeの前にきます。
例えば、
believe, friend, die, pierce
ただ、いつもこの通りだとは限りません。例えば、eの音が “a”や “i”のような発音の場合です。

deceive, perceive, receipt,
またこんな例外も見つかるでしょう。

でも、iはcの後を除いてeの前に来るという一般的なルールは非常に安全なものです。
