How to Study English－Dig a little deeper.

Hello there everyone!

I’m sure you all remember memorising the 都道府県 on the map and their kanji in primary school, well last weekend was my son’s turn and he was literally bored to tears so I decided to make it a little more fun. We looked for famous things from each prefecture and coloured the map to correspond with each and I taught him what the translation for the names of the places would be in English and hey presto, he actually started to enjoy it!

How about doing the same with English, word association is a good way to remember things, look up synonyms antonyms, sentences containing the word or phrase to memorise and slang expressions using too. It will make life a bit more interesting and will certainly increase your vocabulary and knowledge at the same time!

Of course, I wouldn’t suggest this for every new word, life is pretty short after all.

皆さん、こんにちは！

皆さんはもちろん、地図で都道府県とその漢字を小学校で暗記したと思いますが、先週は私の息子の番でした。彼は完全に飽きてしまっていたので、もうちょっと楽しく覚えさせてあげようと決めました。まず各都道府県の有名なものを探し、それら結び合わせながら地図に色を塗っていきました。そして、土地の名前が英語ではどんな訳になるのか教えると、あら不思議！！楽しんで覚え始めました！

英語に置き換えるとどうでしょう、単語の関連性は事柄を覚えることや、類義語、反意語、暗記する単語や文を含む文章、そしてスラング表現を調べるのにいい方法です。それは人生をより少し面白くし、同時に語彙力と知識を広げるでしょう。

もちろん、新しい単語全てにこの方法を実践する必要はありません。人生はとても短いですからね。
