How to study English -learn the adjective, the noun, and the adverb

I quite often find that my students use a noun instead of an adjective when they try to describe something.

For example

I had an accident and hurt my leg. It was very pain. X

I had an accident and hurt my leg it was very painful. O

Pain is a noun and painful is an adjective so the second sentence is correct.

It is probably a good idea to check what kind of word you have actually discovered when you look it up in the dictionary and also learn the noun form and the adverb too while you are at it. It may take a bit of time but the results will be worth it. Remember when learning new words it’s always best to remember them in an example sentence rather that just one by one, this way you will get a feel for the way English sentences are constructed and it will help you come up with your own in the future.

Adverbs are a very useful part of a language and make it much more descriptive.

Example

My leg throbbed painfully for days after the accident.
A woman I’d never met before kindly bought me some disinfectant and ice to put on the wound.

みなさんが何かについて説明したいとき、私は生徒さんが形容詞の代わりに名詞を使っていることをとても頻繁に耳にします。

例えば

I had an accident and hurt my leg. It was very pain. X

I had an accident and hurt my leg it was very painful. O

painは名詞でpainfulは形容詞です。なので2つ目の文が正解です。

辞書で調べたときに、自分がどの種類の言葉を見つけたのかを確認するのはとてもいい方法だと思いますし、そのときに名詞と副詞の形も学びます。少し時間を要するかもしれませんが、やる価値があります。新しい単語を学ぶときは、ひとつずつ覚えるのではなく、その単語が含まれた例文を覚えるのがいいことを忘れないでください。この方法を取ることで、英語の文章がどう組み立てられるかが分かってきますし、将来話す時にそれが頭に浮かんでくるでしょう。

副詞は、言語の中でとても役に立つ部分です。副詞を使うことでより説明を詳しくしてくれます。

例えば、

事故の後しばらく脚がひどくズキズキした。
会ったことのない女の人が、親切に傷にあてる消毒剤と氷を買って来てくれた。
