Hey guys,
I wanted to write about an interesting part of the history of the English language. The sounds we make for letters have changed over time(as it is changing now). This means that many words share an unclear historical connection.
A good example is the English ‘t’ sound (bite, tonight), as it used to be a ‘d’ sound (ride, dog). So the word ‘ten’ used to be ‘decem’ for the Romans. And that’s the meaning behind the word ‘December’, which means the ‘tenth month’. Now, you might be thinking “December isn’t the tenth month you dummy!” But for the Romans, it originally was, they didn’t bother counting winter months as there were no crops to keep track of.
So the words ‘Ten’ and ‘December’ are descendants of the same word, and that’s true for most words in most languages. I think that’s really interesting, and I hope you do, too!

やあ皆さん、
今日は英語という言語の興味深い部分について書きたいと思います。文字の発音は時間と共に変化しています（今も変化し続けています）。これは、多くの単語が曖昧な歴史と繋がっている事を意味します。
良い例として、英語の「 t 」の音（ biteやtonight など）があります。これはかつて「 d 」の音（ rideやdogなど ）として使われていました。かつてローマ人は「 decem (ラテン語の10という意味)」を「ten 」という単語として使っていました。そしてこれによると、「 December 」という単語は裏側で「10個目の月」を意味しています。今あなたは、「12月は10個目の月ではないよ、おバカさん！」と思ったかもしれません。でもローマ人は本来、注意しておくべき作物がない冬の時期はわざわざ月をカウントしなかったのです。
その為、「 ten 」と「 December 」は同じ単語から生まれた子孫であり、実際に多くの言語の中の沢山の単語も同様です。私はこれは本当に面白い事だと思いますし、皆さんもそう思ってくれたらいいなと思います！
