Describing nature
Many students like to say things like: ‘the scenery is beautiful in Hokkaido’ ‘there is a lot of nature in Hokkaido’. The English in these sentences is correct and I’m quite used to hearing them now, but I remember when I first came to Japan that it sounded odd, and unnatural to me. scenery’ are not so commonly used in everyday conversation, at least in England. I’m more used to hearing things like ‘it’s beautiful in ______’ or ‘the ocean was stunning’.
I’ll talk about New Zealand to give some examples. I went there 9 years ago and I was blown away, there are so many incredible waterfalls and stunning mountains.
As I said ‘nature’ and ‘scenery’ are both good words to use in some situations, but the examples I used just feel more natural to me when describing places.

自然についての表現
多くの生徒さんはこんな事を話すのが好きです。
「the scenery is beautiful in Hokkaido 」
「there is a lot of nature in Hokkaido 」
これらは英語としては正しいですし、すごく良く聞く文です。でも初めて日本に来てこれらの表現を聞いた時、奇妙で不自然に感じたことを覚えています。
少なくともイギリスでは「nature」 と「scenery」いう単語は日常会話ではそこまで一般的に使われていないと思います。
「it’s beautiful in ______」や「the ocean was stunning」という表現の方がより多く耳にしました。
ニュージーランドで例を挙げてみます。
I went there 9 years ago and I was blown away, there are so many incredible waterfalls and stunning mountains.
（9年前、私はニュージーランドに行き、感動しました。そこには、とても感動的な滝や見事な山々があります。）
先に述べた様に「nature」と「scenery」は共に、いくつかの状況で使うには良い単語です。でも場所を表現する時には、私が挙げた例の方がより自然に感じられます。
