What we are doing in Kensington
Taking the next step
Our kids school opened up basically 3 years ago and we have grown both in students but also in staff a great deal in these 3 years. One of the pillars on which this growth was based was that we give our staff and teachers a great deal of freedom in how they decide their schedules, plan and teach their lessons and ultimately how they manage each of our branches. This freedom has been essential in the growth of our school so far, but sadly in the last one year as both the number of staff and classes has been growing, so have many problems in the management of the school.
We have recently decided in conjunction with our staff that we need to implement a few more standardized processes and to cut back slightly on how much freedom each of our staff has. The purpose of decreasing some of this freedom is to focus decision-making only on what is important and to decrease internal friction.
Too much freedom and there is inefficiency and chaos, too little freedom and there is conformity and no creativity so having just the freedom you need to feel responsible, to be both very efficient and very creative it’s a very tough balance to strike.
We are committed though together with all the Kensington team to embark on these changes so our school can continue growing.

次の一歩を踏み出す
私たちのキッズスクールは基本的には3年前に開校し、そしてこの3年間で、生徒さんだけでなくスタッフも大きく成長しました。
この成長の基礎となった柱の一つは、スタッフや講師たちに、スケジュールやレッスン方法、また各スクールの管理方法について彼らに多くの権限を与えたことだと思います。
この自由はこれまでのケンジントン英会話の成長に欠かせないものでしたが、残念ながらこの1年間で講師数もレッスン数も増えているため、このままだと学校の運営に多くの問題があります。
最近、スタッフと協力して、さらにいくつか標準化されたプロセスを実装しました。また、各スタッフの自由度をわずかに削減する必要があると判断しました。
この自由の一部を減らす目的は、重要なことのみに意思決定を集中させ、内部摩擦を減らすことです。
自由が多すぎると非効率とカオスがあり、自由が少なすぎると適合性はあるが創造性がありません。
そのため、責任感を感じるために自由を手にしているだけでは、バランス良く効率的で創造的であるのはとても難しいものです。
私たちは、ケンジントン英会話のすべてのチームと協力して、学校が成長し続けることができるように、これらの変更に着手することを約束します。
