Hello there! This monday I nearly burned my house to the ground so I thought I would introduce a phrase using burn.

Burn through means to use up money quickly.

For example.

I burned through a lot of cash during the holidays.

The company president seemed to burn through a lot of the expenses budget early in the year.

Hello again! Since it is getting a bit chilly now I thought I’d show you an idiom connected to the cold.
To be getting the cold shoulder means that your girlfriend/ boyfriend isn’t talking to you because they are upset about something.

For example.

“I’m getting the cold shoulder this week, maybe it’s because I didn’t come home till 4 a.m on Saturday.”

Since the topic for this week’s classes is looking back on the year, I thought I’d stay on course and show you this idiom, “ water under the bridge”.
This means that something that happened in the past is now gone and should be forgotten about. We quite often use it after someone has made and apology.

For example.

Teacher J : “So sorry for losing all the keys last month, it was a huge inconvenience to everyone!”

Teacher T : “ Don’t worry about it, it’s water under the bridge”.

Hello there, today’s natural English expression is “give up the ghost” which means to stop trying to do something because you realise it is not going to happen or it can also be used to talk about when a machine stops working.

For example

After about 3 months of kickboxing I gave up the ghost on becoming world champion and decided to practice as a hobby instead.

I think my T.V is about to give up the ghost. I have had it for a very long time though.

Hi there everyone, next Monday is Guy Fawkes Day in the U.K. On that day, in 1605 Guy Fawkes and his group tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London!
Today I will show you 3 different ways of using blow up.

Blow up ( use a device to destroy something)

Guy Fawkes and his people came up with a plan to blow up the house of parliament in 1605.

Blow up ( inflate)

I got really tired blowing up all the balloons for my daughter’s 6th birthday party.
