What we are doing in Kensington
Kensington Anniversary
Hey guys,
A little bit of history was made this month, Kensington first classes were taught in a decrepit building in Maizuru.
We rented the place only on weekends from a French dude who was the husband of Jaimie’s Japanese teacher, the classes were all taught by me and Jaimie and our reception was the kitchen manned by our secretary.
We have gone a long way since then, we moved to a nicer place in Akasaka, opened our adult schools in Nishijin, Yakuin, Ropponmatsu and Meinohama (Meinohama was a victim of the pandemic and closed soon after), opened our kids schools in Sakurazaka, Yakuin and Hiraojosui and have grown our team of teachers and staff to over 20 people!
The kids’ school didn’t open till 3 years ago. This is a school in its nascent stages, we have achieved much already but it’s still only the beginning of our journey. There are so many things that need improving and we’re always thankful to our staff for pointing them out.
Continuous improvement has been one of the guiding principles over which the school was founded and we have stayed true to that. Another guiding principle of our school was that we wanted to establish a workplace where our staff and teachers’ ideas and opinions are respected, heard and implemented. This is also something that we have stayed true to. Everywhere you look around our school you can see things created by our employees. This is a place where we care about what our employees have to say and in many cases take action upon it. That’s a world of difference from any other English school we’ve ever worked at where we usually felt that our bosses would be happier if we just could shut up and teach.
We have grown year after year after year even in the midst of what should have been a bone crushing pandemic for our business and through it all we have emerged with a great product in 3 levels. Great English classes for kids, Great test prep classes, Great adult classes. Most English schools can’t say they do one of those things right and we do all three. Great doesn’t mean that we don’t need to work on improving our classes, nor it means that our classes are perfect as they are. They are not and there is so much that we can still improve on. If history is any guide, we will most definitely do so.

ケンジントンのアニバーサリー
やあ、みなさん。
5月というのはケンジントン英会話にとって少し歴史的で、初めてのレッスンが舞鶴にある古い建物で行われた月です。
その建物はジェイミーの日本語の先生の旦那さんである、フランス人から週末のみ貸してもらっていました。
当時は私とジェイミーだけでレッスンをしており、スタッフが常駐するレセプションはその部屋のキッチンでした。
そこから私たちは長い道のりを歩んできました。
赤坂のより良い場所に引っ越し、西新、薬院、六本松、姪浜に大人向けの英会話学校を開校しました。（姪浜はパンデミックの影響を受け、すぐに閉鎖されてしまいました。）
桜坂にはこども向けの英会話学校を開校しました。 さらに、薬院、平尾城水にも開校し、講師・スタッフが20人以上在籍するチームに成長することができました！
キッズスクールは3年前まで開校しておらず、まだ始まったばかりです。
私たちはすでに多くのことを達成しましたが、これはまだ私たちの旅の始まりにすぎません。
改善が必要なことはたくさんあり、それを指摘してくれるスタッフにはいつも感謝しています。
継続的な改善は、私たちの指針の一つであり、それに忠実であり続けています。
もう一つの指針は、スタッフと講師の考えや意見は尊重され、実行される職場を作るということでした。これも私たちが忠実に守ってきたものです。
私たちの学校を見渡すと、スタッフが作ってきたものがあることに気づきます。
ここは、スタッフの発言に気を配り、多くの場合、それに基づいて行動する場所です。
私たちがこれまで働いてきた英語学校では、私たち講師が何も意見せず黙ってレッスンをしさえすれば、上司は満足なんだろうと感じていました。
しかしここは、そのような学校とは異なる世界です。
私たちは、ビジネスにとって骨を砕くパンデミックの真っ只中でさえ、年々成長し続け、その間に3つの素晴らしいクラスを生み出しました。
こどもの英会話クラス、テスト対策クラス、大人の英会話クラスです。
これらの1つも正しく行えていない英語学校が多くあるにも関わらず、私たちは3つすべてを行っています。
クラスが素晴らしいとは言っても、その改善に取り組む必要がないという意味でも、今のままで完璧だという意味でもありません。
私たちはまだ改善し続けることができます。
歴史が導くところでは、私たちは間違いなくそうするでしょう。
