Day in Lieu

This week our topic is ‘A Day Off’. In Japan, most people are off on national holidays, but some people have to work. And the same is true in England. In that case, in England, people will be given an extra paid day off that they can take later. This is called a day in lieu. 

Here’s an example:
‘I worked the national holiday, so they gave me a day in lieu, which I’ll probably use next month.’

今週の私達のトピックは「休日」です。日本では殆どの人は祝日が休みですが、働かなくてはいけない人もいます。そしてそれはイングランドでも同様です。この場合、イングランドでは後日、休日手当をもらえます。

これは「day in lieu」と呼ばれています。

例
 ‘I worked the national holiday, so they gave me a day in lieu, which I’ll probably use next month.’
（私は祝日に働いたので、休日手当を貰いました。多分来月使うと思います。）
