Since this weekend’s theme is going to be about house hunting ,here are a few things people often get wrong when talking about their homes.

First of all the big one. Mansion.
まず最初に、大きいやつですね。「マンション」。
People always tell me that they live in a mansion. This surprised me at first, I knew Japan was a wealthy nation, but “How many mansions could there possibly be?” I thought.
「私は mansion に住んでいます」といつも言われますが、
Mansion really means a very large house with multiple bedrooms often found on an estate in the countryside.
実は、mansion は、田園地方の私有地によく見られ、
What people are really referring to is called a block of flats in the U.K, and an apartment building in the U.S.
ここで実際に話されているのは「アパート」のことで、

日曜に何したの？
I cleaned my room.
部屋の掃除をしたよ。
This makes me think that you live with your parents and that you cleaned up your bedroom, of course if you do, then this answer is fine.
この答えを聞いて思い浮かぶのは、両親と暮らしていて、
The word 部屋 is often used in Japanese but for English speakers it gives the image of what I just said above. It doesn’t matter if you live in a one room flat, it’s much easier for English speakers to understand if you say house/place.
「部屋」という言葉は、日本語ではよく使われますが、

I cleaned up my house/ place.
うちの掃除をしたよ。
Living = Living room
リビング = リビングルーム（居間）
When describing their homes people often say living, instead of living room.
自宅の説明をするとき、living room の代わりに living と言うのをよく聞きます。
The T.V is in the living. X
テレビは生きている人々の中にあります。
The T.V is in the living room.
テレビはリビング（ルーム）にあります。
Also, when we talk about going home please try to remember that the preposition to is not necessary.
また、帰宅の話をするとき、前置詞の to は不要だということを忘れないで下さいね。
Where are you going?
どこ行くの？
I’m going to home.X
家にに帰るの。
I’m going home.
家に帰るの。
